How Will the DV Lottery Result be Declared?

The DV Lottery Result is announced annually by the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) only. No other organization or company is authorized to declare the results to the selected people in the DV lottery program.

The KCC selects the winners through a computer that does the selection randomly for the fiscal year program. Earlier, they used to announce the DV lottery result by regular postal mail between the months of May and July every year. During the 2010 fiscal year program, they did a pilot program which enabled applicants to check the results online through their online web site This helped all applicants know whether they are selected for further processing or not.

They continued with the winning notification through post for the selected winners and the online status check facility for the 2011 fiscal year program too.

Finding the online status check facility a successful one in announcing the selected winners, the State Department decided to scrape the postal winning notifications sending process during the DV 2012 program. All the DV 2012 applicants were required to retain their confirmation number after submitting their entries during the entry submission period. Applicants will be allowed to check their status in the official web site with their confirmation number and other personal details. It was decided the DV lottery result for 2012 will not be sent to the selected applicants individually. The winners will not get any notification through postal mail, email, fax or phone. If anyone gets a winning notification through any of these ways, it may be a fake one.

The DV Lottery Result Process

Every year, once the electronic entry submission is over, the official website will stop accepting entries for that particular fiscal year. The computers will start to randomly select winners from the valid entries region wise.

Each entry will be given with a case number per the fiscal year and the applicant’s birth country’s geographical region. If an applicant from Nigeria is selected for the 2011 program, his case number for the DV 2011 will be 2011AF0000xxx12345. All selected persons are informed that they should not proceed further with the green card lottery program if they don’t have the required education/work experience, which are the key eligibility requirements. Also ensure to keep your confirmation number safe as there is no other way to check the results.

Another aspect to keep in mind is that being selected for the program will not give the applicant, the American Government’s immigrant visas instantly. Being selected only gives them a chance to apply for the immigration visa by paying the required immigrant visa fees and the diversity visa processing fees. The entire fee approximately will be$ 819 for an individual. Other eligible family members should also pay the same visa fees for each of them whether they are joining the primary applicant to the USA or not. The visa fees will not be refunded if the visa is rejected for some reason.

The appropriate visa fees should be paid ONLY to the US Embassy or Consular office on the date of the interview. Remember not to send the fees by bank or through any other organization.

The DV 2012 application form requests the applicant’s email address. Though the KCC will not send the winner selection through the email, in the future, after wining the green card lottery those who had been selected will be contacted through their email addresses for further communication while their case is being processed.

    • In this case you must contact the KCC and ask them about the situation. Keep your full name and case number handy to tell them so they can answer your question quickly. Any how prepare your certificates and other documents. Also contact your local consular office and ask them on how to make the medical examination and the police clearance certificates. Also you must know that the current fiscal year DV Lottery program will close on 30th September and there after no one can benefit from the winning of that Green card lottery program.

    • Kindly login into http://www.dvlottery.state.gov/ to check your status. But right now, due to a computer programming problem, the results of the 2012 Diversity Lottery that were previously posted on this website have been voided. They were not valid and were posted in error. The results were not valid because they did not represent a fair, random selection of entrants, as required by U.S. law.

    • Yes. Due to a computer programming problem, the results of the 2012 Diversity Lottery that were previously posted on their website stands voided. They have mentioned that the results are not valid and were posted in error. The reason for being void is because they did not represent a fair, random selection of entrants, as required by US law. I hope this time, it will be authentic one for sure. This is first time happening in the history of DV Lottery.

    • You can check your winning notification in the DV Lottery Government website using your confirmation number. In case if you dont get selected, dont lose your hope…try for next year lottery and you will win it…All the best!!!

  14. It’s a scam email. If your country is not in eligible list then how could you check your list. IF your country is in eligible list you have to apply for DV Lottery registration. Once the result is declared you have check your winning notification through online in DV Lottery Government website.

      • You cannot do anything if you lose your confirmation number. Winning notification can be checked through online using your confirmation number. You wont get mails from Government. If you have registered with any private website, there is chance for recovering your confirmation number.

    • Winning the lottery is not based on your education or work experience. It will matter only after you win. The requirements are
      A high school education or its equivalent OR
      Two years of work experience within the past five years in an occupation requiring at least two years’ training or experience.
      The Embassies would consider O’Net Database for interpreting Work Experience Requirements.

    • “High School education or its equivalent” means the successful completion of a twelve year course of elementary and secondary education in the US or successful completion in another country of a formal course of elementary and secondary education comparable to complete a 12 year education in the US. Passage of a high school equivalency examination is not sufficient. You can have completed your education in less than twelve years or greater than twelve years if the course of study completed is equivalent to a US high school education. They do not check the educational requirement while selecting. So you can wait till the results are out and check with your Embassy to get the best way out.

    • No it’s a scam. Did you applied for DV Lottery during October month last year in DV Lottery Government website. If you would have applied, you would be given confirmation number by government. These people are scam, they simply send the confirmation number and saying you have won the lottery and fetch your money. So be aware of them.

    • No thats not possible to hack from American government. There are some private companies used to sell the data base of all the members who had registered in websites like Google,yahoo etc. Scammers buy those information and email to them like there are from US Government but it’s a scam.

    • The eligibility requirements include at least a high school diploma, or its equivalent, or two years of work experience in an occupation that requires at least two years training.

  41. Hi Sam concerning the dv lottery, when you get to the level of education you see quiet a long list but I’m confused about high school degree and high school no degree. Can you compare Ghana wassce certificate to high school degree. Tanx.

    • I am not aware of the school system in Ghana. But to help you with this, it means you need to have completed school education and be ready for college next. Only when you have completed a certain number of years (generally 12-13 years) in school will you be eligible to enter college. And that level is generally referred to as high school. So, have you completed high school? Are you eligible to apply to a college? Do you have a certificate from school that proves that you have taken the exams and completed the course? If yes, then you can choose high school degree. If you have attended high school, but did not complete it or did not get the certificate, then you can say high school, no degree. I hope this helps.

  43. Hi im in Australia. I completed year 11 but didn’t do year 12. It says you must have completed 12 years of schooling or equivalent? What would equivalent be? would I still be accepted. I checked under the work criteria but my zone is a level 2 so I wont qualify for work related. Hoping year 11 might be accepted as equivalent or I might be wasting my time. Wanting to apply for 2017 intake
