According to Wikipedia, “Labor Day is an American federal holiday observed on the first Monday in September (September 3 in 2012) that celebrates the economic and social contributions of workers.

Labor day is held on the first Monday of September and is celebrated in different ways, including parades, parties and other events.

It is also considered as a mark of the end of summer. Another interesting tidbit from Wikipedia is that the Labor day is considered the last day in the year when it is fashionable to wear white.

Labor day or immediately after that marks the beginning of the football season as well. Students especially use this as an occasion to have their last parties before the beginning of the next school year.
