Fake Emails About Greencard Lottery – USCIS Issues Warning

The Diversity Visa Lottery, commonly referred to as the greencard lottery, was established in the 1990 Immigration Act to give an additional opportunity to natives from eligible countries to immigrate to the United States, apart from the regular routes of immigration. The Diversity Lottery or the DV Program makes 55,000 immigrant visas available to people who come from countries with low rates of immigration to the U.S. Out of this, 5000 is allotted for use under NACARA beginning with DV ’99.

The State Department conducts the lottery every year, and randomly selects approximately 110,000 applicants from all qualified applications. The State Department selects approximately 110,000 applications as many will not complete the visa process. However, once 55,000 are issued for the year, the DV program is closed.

If you get a visa through the greencard lottery program, you are authorized to live and work permanently in the U.S. You can also bring your spouse and any unmarried children under the age of 21 to the U.S. In this program, the U.S. government gives visas through a computer-generated lottery drawing.

A permanent residence visa is generally referred to as green card. Having a permanent residence visa is good for life. Green card holders can also get health, education, retirement, taxation, social security and other benefits. If desired, a green card holder may later apply for U.S. citizenship once he/she meets all the eligibility requirements.

Applicants for the greencard lottery program will no longer be permitted to submit a petition by mail. Instead, the Department requires all applications to be submitted to it in an electronic format, using an Internet website that is specifically available for the submission and receipt of Diversity Visa

Scammers Sending Fraudulent Emails and Letters :

As mentioned earlier, the State Department (DOS) is the authority that conducts this lottery. The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) warns immigrants to beware of fraudulent emails telling them they have won the greencard lottery. The Department of State, Office of Visa Services, brings to the notice of the public of a notable increase in fraudulent emails and letters sent to DV program applicants. The scammers who send such fraudulent emails and letters pose as the U.S. government in an attempt to extract money from greencard lottery applicants. All applicants are requested to be familiar with information about greencard lottery (DV) scams provided by the Federal Trade Commission.

Finally, all DV-2012 applicants should check their status online, and will not receive a notification letter from the government agency. The DV Entry Status can be checked at the Department of State secure online site http://www.dvlottery.state.gov from July 1, 2010, until June 30, 2011. Also refer to the additional fraud warning information provided and the frequently asked questions about fraud protection for additional information.

The U.S. Department of State also advises that it will notify winners by only by mail for the DV 2011 lottery. This Greencard lottery is for individuals who applied in 2009. The letter will come from the Department of State. If you don’t get a letter or the website does not identify you as a winner, it means you did not win. Green Card Lottery is one of the best way to get green card.

Something special attracted my attention and it was a notification about the version of Internet Explorer which must be used to check the results. from that date on I’m a bit anxious about my result, because I didn’t have any access to that version of IE. I only checked the result using the latest version of IE and google chrome. Is it possible not to get appropriate result by not using the IE 6 or 7?

United States Permanent Resident Card Granted! – Waiting for payment of processing fee $879
    Processing fees Included
    Total $879
Although the Diversity Visa participation was free, the law and regulations require to every diversity visa winner to pay a visa processing fee of $879. The Diversity Visa(Green Card) is guaranteed upon receiving the payment.
The per person fee for each Diversity Visa is $879, payable in U.S. dollars or equivalent of your local currency. This $879 fee is the only fee a winner needs to pay throughout the entire relocation process.
Accompanying family members(wife/husband, fiancee, brothers, sisters, childrens, cousins) may be included in the program and their visas will be provided at the same time with yours so you can travel/move together in the same time. However the fees must be paid per person and each member(e.g wife, brother, parents, childrens, cousin) must pay $879. There is no discount for childrens.
